HUD receives scathing audit for oversight in soon-to-be ghost town

A new, scathing report from the Office of Inspector General puts HUD in the hot seat for its lack of action taken on the soon-to-be ghost town of Cairo, Illinois. The report explained the city’s deplorable conditions did not occur overnight. In fact, HUD had been aware of negative conditions since at least 2010.
